After opening its doors just a decade ago, ITresources today joined the ranks of the software elite by attaining one of the industry's most respected and sought-after quality designations: CMM Level 5.

The CMM (Capability Maturity Model), developed at Carnegie Mellon University 's Software Engineering Institute (SEI), is comprised of five levels and considered the industry standard for measuring the maturity of an organization's software development processes.

Because of its strict performance and accountability standards, Level 5 is considered the highest and most difficult rating to achieve. Fewer than 100 companies worldwide – less than 2% of all companies assessed by SEI – currently hold this rating. ITresources is the first company of its size ever to achieve this level.

It did so by demonstrating exceptional proficiency in the areas of: defect prevention; technology change management; and process change management.

The company's president and CEO, Gary C. Gray, explains why the company took on such a complex operational challenge and what achieving CMM Level 5 means for current and future customers.

“The decision to pursue this goal was made last year, after we earned the CMM Level 4 rating. The assessor gave us a perfect score, which provided the foundation and the motivation for going to Level 5. We were all aware of the demands and requirements, but everyone agreed it was a worthwhile pursuit. Since then, the entire company has been focused on quality and process improvement,” says Gray.

Gray is also quick to point out that it's his customers who benefit most of all.
